Exhibition "Ukrainian Art after 2000. Glossary"
National Cultural Center "Ukrainian House, Kyiv | UA
July 18 – August 24, 2025
Art After 2000. Glossary engages with our shared history through the lens of art as both anticipation and reflection of change. The project examines the transformation of artistic lexicons amid sociocultural shifts, presenting works by seventy Ukrainian artists and inviting a rethinking of the symbolic language of contemporary history.
The exhibition is structured as a journey through a “glossary” of Ukrainian art from the first quarter of the twenty-first century. The curators have constructed an alternative, poetic dictionary, composed of terms inspired by artworks, exhibitions, and philosophical concepts, each serving as a key to understanding the present. Artists whose practices emerged or were shaped after the turn of the millennium appear here as perceptive interpreters of social and cultural transformations, intuitively sensing shifts before their full articulation and offering new perspectives on the world and the self.
The glossary includes seven terms:
These concepts correspond to works by Dana Kavelina, Khrystyna Melnyk, Stas Volyazlovskyi, Kateryna Lysovenko, Daniil Revkovskyi, and Andrii Rachynskyi, alongside the theoretical frameworks of Guy Debord and Paul Virilio. They demonstrate how art functions not merely as illustration, but as a fully-fledged medium for articulating change.
The project guides visitors from term to term, revealing the evolution of an artistic language that continuously transforms with time, while searching for new and resonant forms of expression.
